This app is absolutely fantastic. I love the step by step instructions which cover everything in detail. I can't understand why anyone would give this app less than 5 stars. Easily the best cooking app I've seen. I made the lamb chops and creamy herb lentils with spring greens which I substituted with spinach cos kale isn't that easy to get. The result wad one of the best meals I have cooked. Ignore the ratings below 5 stars because this app is awesome! (translate)

this is my first time of writing a review of an app, whether its a game, lifestyle and all. i stumbled by this great app when i was looking through the food section of iTunes, and i saw this "jamie oliver's 20 minutes meal" i opened it cause i was curious, and kinda had a doubt because of the price, so i went through the reviews and all that, and it has a 4 1/2 star rating, so i thought, why not give it a try? after i bought it, i went through everything the app has slowly and i got really excited and couldn't wait for next morning. the app is easy to use, the recipes and videos are literally easy to understand. also the shopping feature helpede me alot when i buy all ingredients needed for the food. fyi, i am not a cook nor familiar with cooking in what sort of things. i only know how to cook water and instant noodle. i couraged myself to try and bought all the ingredients for "Bacon and Asparagus Pappardelle" and tried to cook it at home straight away, guess what? i am totally blown away with the result of dish that i already made! i tried it and ate it half of it, and give the other half for my family member, and he loved it! he asked where did i learn to cook like that lol. anyways, i gave this app a 5 star rating for it. 5star from indonesia jamie, BEST $10 that i've ever spent LITERALLY!~ NB: please add more recipes and helpful videos, i wanna try to cook more that someone as good as Jamie Oliver could offer in an app! :) Cheers (translate)

Love this app ... except that a number of vids stall halfway through. I have a 3gs, with the new OS. Restarts, reinstalls haven't resolved the problem ... same issue. So I'm blaming the app ... which otherwise is wonderful. Fantastic shopping feature ... great recipes ... but the failing video is a deal breaker, particularly when I've spent more than I'd normally fork out (no pun intended) for an app. Fix it please? The part of the app I can use is great. Unfortunately I am unable to download the videos, even if I go to a free wifi area here in Adelaide. Very disappointed and feeling a little ripped off, considering I paid full price. When I first had issues I contacted support and got a reply. I wasn't particularly impressed with the first recipe I've tried from it (crab risotto with anise salad); the meal was bland and lacked flavour, I felt that perhaps an ingredient was missing from the recipe. I do, however, love the photos, easy directions, and cooking tips. The ingredient list that allows you to make a shopping list, is inspired. I would love to see them expand the selection of recipes as the app evolves, I've got my eye on several more to try, but as non meat eaters, and not huge fans of curries, I'm not entirely sure this app will be my most go-to source for meal ideas. I think this is a good app to get people cooking which is it's intended purpose but if you cook regularly than there isn't much new. If you have a large family as I do the servings only go up to 4 which isn't enough. Like I said great for beginners and great to get people back to healthier eating. (translate)

Good app. Several of the video tutorials, such as knife care and cooking the perfect steak keep freezing (ie. the knife care one stops right after Jamie explains the angle you should have your knife at to sharpen it). Could you possibly release an update to fix these bugs? Thanks. (translate)

I loved this app the second i got it and fell more in love with it the more I used it. This app should be a role model for every other cooking app on itunes. It was so well thought out with no detail forgotten. Every step was well discribed with a different picture. Jamie is a wonderful teacher and was able to show that in his wonderfull videos. Just about every recipe calls for something I can't buy locally - fresh red chile's seem to be mandatory for most, then there's stuff like "dried farfalle". It may take 20 minutes to make the meal, but much much longer to shop for the ingredients. This app probably won't be used much in our house. (translate)

The value regarding this product is absolutely amazing. The app is wonderfully designed with an easy to read interface, lots of video examples and a wide variety of recipes. The shopping list feature is a nice plus and it's useful even when you're not cooking the included recipes since you can add custom ingredients. I would even be interrested in a subscription model where I pay let's say 5$ a month for a few new recipes each week since I believe the platform is a really strong one. While I've never showed interest in the iPad so far, if this application is available for it, I will actually get one - it's that good. Highly recommended! (translate)

This app really blew me away. I opened it and immediatly was greeted by Jaime. The presentation and polish of the app really stands out. There is cooking instructions, shopping lists, instructional videos by Jaime himself. This app is well worth the 7.99. I'd say you could pay more for a cook book that doesn't hold a candle to this app. It is easily worth three times the listed price. It will be come on of my go too apps from now on. I love this app. I am new to the whole iphone thing and this app could not be easier to use. I made the Grilled Lemon and Herb chicken with mash, and it turned out even better than the picture!! So easy (and cheap!). I would recommend that you read through the instructions quickly before you begin because if your like me you can multitask more than the instructions direct, giving you time between actions to do the 101 things you are trying to do while cooking dinner. My husband recommends it too, and seeing how easy it was....tonight it's his turn! (translate)

All I can say is a lot of thought and effort was put in this application. Very good quality videos, slick interface and lots of audio tips from jamie himself adding a lot of his personality. The downside is that you'll use a lot of extra virgin olive oil ... you'll need a bulk sized jug because it's on almost everything. The recent price drop and additional recepies are great. For those unsure, the videos can be seperately downloaded so it's a smaller initial size. (translate)

Never really did a lot of cooking in the kitchen prior to getting this app. In fact I purchased it for my wife. Once I got inside the app I found it rather inspiring and started gathering some ingredients for a meal. Four dinners later and Im still loving it. Was a fan until the last update which stripped out the videos and made them additional downliads rwquired post install. If you need some quick pointers thet are no longer quick and no longer something I would recommend. Also the fact they went ahead and removed content without asking, that was already installed, should raise concerns for any future customers. (translate)

Wow this is quite a work of art, a must have for anyone who likes to cook! The step by step pictures are quite usefull. Like everyone says, the only thing I would improve would be to add more recipes but when you think of the amount of work that went into this app, I understand that adding recipes will probably not be free! What a wonderful application! I madey first pasta yesterday and it was delicious. I love the recipes and I adore the step by step photos. I can't wait for more recipes! Two things I would change would be the measurments for food. Wish it had a toggle button as I don't weigh my peas or cheese ( oz ). As well would like to add individual items to my shopping list from recipes as I am always just one to four items short of the recipes. It's tiring adding the recipes and then going and crossing 80% of the items off that I already have. Over all a must have. I love this application. And will be cooking every single recipe! A month ago, I knew nothing about cooking. A month later, I made 2 plates as the recipe in the app, both of them were delicious,even professional! Jamie Oliver's way of explaining is clear and attractive, making you want to have a try. He spreads the love for food and for life. The desing of the app is amazing, thoughtful. The problem I have, is hard to correspond the ingredients' English name with their Germany name,the latter is used in Swiss supermarket. I hope the app will update the language, so that in most european country it can be used. Another problem is that ingredients are not listed by classification. For example cheese is listed after rice and then mint after rice (it's a close example,not a list existed in the app).This can wast time when clients are shopping. At least for me it's the case. Unless you go online, the recipes are few and very basic. Some of "Jamie´s advice" appear to be aimed at people who´s never cooked. Jamies App ist auf meinem iPhone seit Januar 2010 eigentlich eine meiner Lieblingsapps. Jetzt wollte ich die App sogar auch meiner Freundin schenken, aber:1. ernüchternde Erkenntnis: Der Preis hat sich offensichtlich erhöht, ohne das wesentliche Änderungen dies rechtfertigen würden. (Eine Handvoll neuer Rezepte wurde ergänzt, das war es bis jetzt) Statt 3.99€ kostet die App nun trotzdem 5.99€. Trotzdem war es mir die Sache ein zweites Mal wert. Doch jetzt:2. Enttäuschung: Auf dem iPad läuft die App nur als iPhone-Variante, ist also nicht eigens für das iPad angepasst worden. Das ist unerträglich anzusehen und ich fühle mich regelrecht betrogen, weil man beim Kauf seitens des iTunes-Store nicht mal vorgewarnt wird - statt dessen wird die App als iPad kompatibel ausgewiesen. Daher nur ein Stern an Zolmo Limited und an Apple. Meine Wertung würde ich sofort in 5 Sterne ändern, wenn ein (kostenloses!!!) Update auch eine "wirkliche" iPad-Kompatibilität mit sich bringt. Also das Rad neu erfunden wurde mit der App nicht. Dass Jamie Oliver nicht selbst kocht sei auch mal verziehen. Zumindest sind die gepflegten Hände auf den Photos nicht die mit Jamie olivers abgekauten Fingernägeln. Er zeigt nur mal kurz wie man Zwiebel schneidet USW. Denke mal er hat sich da 2 Stunden hingestellt um das ein mal eins des Kochs virzuführen und gut war. Der Rest ist nur Markennamen. Aber egal. Was mich bei den 20 Minuten Rezepten nervt, ist dass sie wirklich umfangreich sind. Mal ernsthaft: ich kann fast jedes Gericht in 20 minuten zubereiten!! Also was soll das???? Dass ich für die 20 minutengerichte aber ne Stunde zum einkaufen brauche ist ein anders thema. Die Gerichte als Video wären mir lieber. Oder als mindmap. Beides verschafft einen Überblick. Die Karten mit den bildern nerven und sind Roboter-Anweisungen... Traue mich nicht nur 2 Sterne zu geben :S (translate)

Ein gut durchdachtes App, die Rezepte sind klasse. DIe Videos sind für jeden Anfänger gut zu verstehen. Der Aufbau ist super gelöst und die integrierte Einkaufsliste gefällt mir sehr gut. Ja, einige Gerichte sind ansprechend. Ja, das Programm funktioniert prima ABER: Den wirklichen Mehrwert im Vergleich zu anderen Rezeptapplikationen kann ich nicht entdecken. Die Videos sind nett, aber viel zu kurz oder einfach überflüssig. Und was sollen diese Fotos für die Zwischenschritte beim kochen? Motive wie: Eine Hand am Herd zum "Ofen vorheizen" oder Servietten zu "Tisch dekorieren" sind total überflüssig. Da haben es die Designer zu gut gemeint und lassen es sich teuer Bezahlen. I'm completely baffled at the quality of this production. It's suited for beginners and more advanced home chefs. Beter is het om een flesje citroensap te kopen. Er zijn ook enkele bugs; bijv. als je in het video gedeelte zit en je herstart de app, dan crasht de app als je de video opnieuw wilt spelen. Tevens is het vervelend dat je opnieuw alle video's moet downloaden na een upgrade van de versie. Meteen doen, want je weet nooit of de video's worden teruggetrokken. In eerste instantie vond ik de prijs nogal hoog in vergelijking met de meeste andere apps. Tijdens de aanbieding toch maar gekocht vanwege de hoge rating, en nu kan ik zeggen dat deze app de prijs meer dan waard is! De iPhone is geen boek en geen DVD, maar een interactief platform, en deze applicatie is daar perfect op aangepast. De filmpjes die erop staan zijn van hoge kwaliteit, leggen alles duidelijk uit en zijn niet te lang. Het is erg makkelijk om door de filmpjes te bladeren en de juiste informatie te vinden. De recepten zijn duidelijk uitgelegd met mooie foto's van elke stap erbij. Visueel is het allemaal tot in de details goed uitgewerkt en zeer aantrekkelijk gemaakt. I bought this app based on other reviews and because I wanted to learn to cook more interesting meals. It was well worth the purchase. My wife is very pleased with my new interest in cooking :) and she has had her interest rekindled in the process and has even installed the app on her iPod. All the recipes we've tried have been a great success and I'm looking forward to the possibilty of more recipes in future updates. Only minor issue I've found is that some ingredients are missing from step notes so you have to jump back to check how much is need. Would also be good if you could turn off the audio as when you're learning you tend to jump back and forth through the steps a bit :) Otherwise, the interface is great and the shopping list feature is fantastic! Hallo! Nachtrag zur neuen Version (1.2) - das "Deutschproblem" ist gelöst - die Menüführung und Erklärungen sind sehr gut, Schritt für Schritt. Wo ist die deutsche Sprache im Programm? Habe mir das Programm heruntergeladen weil vermittelt wurde, dass es eine DEUTSCHE Übersetzung gibt. Nach der Installation musste ich feststellen, dass nur die Menüführung in Deutsch ist. Hier wurde vermittelt, dass das Programm eingedeutscht ist. Ich fange mit den englischen Begriffen nichts an. Eigentlich möchte ich unter diesen Bedingungen mein Geld wieder zurück - werde das auch entsprechend schreiben. Darum nur 1 Stern Habe auch die Rückmeldung des Support erhalten mit der Empfehlung die Regionszuordnung auf Deutschland umzustellen. Sie sehen das nicht wirklich als Bug. Ist für mich nicht akzeptabel weil aus der Regionsbezeicnung auch andere Programme Informationen ableiten. Dasselbe gilt auch für die Schweiz die aber mehrsprachig ist. Bis zu einem Bugfix - und es ist ein Bug - bleibt da leider nur ein Stern (translate)

Übersichtlich und innovativ - nicht einfach ein "normales" Buch.Hatte Probleme beim Installieren - Es kam die Meldung, dass nicht genug Speicherplatz vorhanden ist, obwohl 780 MB frei waren.Habe ein Mail an den Support geschrieben und innerhalb einer Stunde die Antwort bekommen, dass manchmal zur Installation einer App der doppelte Platz gebraucht wird. The concept is perfect with the iPhone workflow, very polished both visually and tehnically. This means it's very responsive and does not lag. About the recepies I can say they are fantastic as ussual....in a nut shell, best money i ever spent on the app store. P.S. Perfect idea introducing a guide for which tools to have in the kitchen...waited this feature from Jamie for a long time. :) Looking forward to updates and don't ignore our desire for small free updates also. Ich schliesse mich den vorhergehenden Beurteilungen an. Es ist eine Ver.....ung dieses App auch als deutsche Version zu bezeichnen. Im übrigen finde ich es eine bewusste Täuschung, wenn die Abbildung der "Dicken Tomatensauce" hier auf der Verkaufswerbung in Deutsch abgebildet ist (einschliesslich Zutaten) und im App ist diese Darstellung in Englisch! A great app, truly thought through. Great quality production of videos, photos and graphics. Easy to use - though I was a bit apprehensive about using my iphone in the kitchen. I usually cook hands-on, so I have to remember to wipe fingers before scrolling onto the next step. The shopping list feature is perfect and lets you add whatever else you need to shop for to the list (eg. loo paper). The one thing I miss is being able to write my own notes to the recipes as I do in my regular cookbooks - I like to experiment and adapt to my own taste, so this would be great to include in an update. Look forward to update with more recipes - as I believe I understood correctly - are to come. This would be good, because while the recipes are certainly good, they are a little too basic for my experience - I can already do a mean pasta and curry, salads and cut up a pineapple. Still, all in all, I don't regret spending the 8.80 francs on this app - I think it's worth it. Cheers and keep up the good work! (translate)

Great app but a little too pricey!I was first introduced to the world of Jamie Oliver when I was given one of his cookbooks. Since then, I've become a huge fan, have all of his cook books and tried many of his recipes and tips. As others have stated, the app is easy to navigate and things seem to be laid out in an intuitive manner. Has detailed instructions with loads of photos to illustrate as well as videos. The recipes are fairly simple to follow and you don't have to worry about converting different units of measure because the app does it all for you.I'd have given it 5 stars if it weren't for the price of $7.99. The app is easy to navigate, very intuitive. Step-by-step instructions in the form of a deck of reference cards with crisp photographs makes it dummy-proof even for those without much knowledge about cooking. The shopping list that enables users to drop the entire list of ingredients for a recipe with the option of customizing to one's preference is a fantastic idea. As a JO branded app I had very high expectations for this. Most all were met! The production quality is high, the user interface is gorgeous, and the utility of the shopping list is a time saver. The only snag was the time planing. I have only done the beef stroganoff but I challenge anyone (beside Jamie) to do this in 20 min. Only way is to pre chop all ingredients so I would add 10 minutes to the prep time. Looking forward to menu updates and new videos with more kitchen skills tips. Nice one! (translate)

I really think this is good value for money. I've found it far easier to use than a paper recipe book. I love having it constantly available. The one thing I would like to see changed though are those sound bytes that play as I flick backwards and forwards through the steps. This is one of the most beautiful and easy to use iPhone apps. It's simply a joy to look at and use. I should also say that I have been a great admirer of Jamie Oliver ever since his early days on the Food Network. Thus far I have tried about 12 of the recipes and I have certainly not been all that impressed by them. They tend to be rather dull and sometimes somewhat unpleasant. I found the use of avocado in the Greek Salad to detract and the Penne and Tuna recipe to be both pedestrian and generally unappealing. I wish there were two iPhone app rating variables one for design (this one would receive 5 stars) and one for content (I would give this one 3 stars). I will nonetheless continue exploring the recipes I have not yet tried and can hope that Jamie can add more interesting recipes in the future. (translate)

This app is amazing! I have always felt inadequate in the kitchen - a) because I don't have the right tools and b) because I didn't have the right ingredients. The problem wasn't just that I didn't have these things; I just didn't know where to start. This app has a plethora of videos for those of us who would rather watch than read. I've not yet tried out any of the recepies because I am still working on getting my kitchen together, but I am sure that they will be easy to make. This is a VERY well designed app and I would highly reccomend this to anyone who's ever felt like they couldn't make more than a frozen pizza at home! :) (translate)

What an app! The videos are fantastic, teaching you knife technics, chopping tricks, food knowledge - and how to work fast. You do need to have basics - a sharp knife, wooden spoons, grater, a few pots and pans - but once you've invested in the basics, this guy's going to show you how to cook and cook fast. The whole app is well designed, attractive to look at and easy to use. Lots of content will keep you cooking for days. High quality app like I've never seen. If you're cooking for someone, like family or girlfriend, look out - they're going to be psyched! (translate)

I downloaded this today and made Farfelle Genovese for my girlfriend. She was blown away that I actually made a meal that tasted that good! The app really walks you through these recipes step by step which is great for inexperienced cooks like me. The photos and videos are really helpful as they help illustrate exactly what things should look like. This is really the best executed cooking app. It integrates the ability to make a shopping list, photos and step by step directions. The title says meals, and it means it. The steps are ordered to make a whole meal rather than a single dish. I've tried several of the recipes and my family has loved each one. Looking forward to more recipes being added to this one and the other cooking apps catching up with this one. Maybe add wine recommendations, in recipe timers like the ones in the How to cook Everything app, and the ability to sync with zip list. (translate)

Not only is this by FAR the best cooking app (and I've tried many of them) but it is the best app of any kind I've found on iTunes. This app makes it so easy to make good homecooked meals there is no excuse for the preprocessed box from the frozen aisle anymore. Great recipes that are quick and easy, step by step instructions WITH PHOTOS of EACH step, fantastic videos on different subjects featuring Jamie, and an excellent shopping list feature that separates the different recipes you want to make with their shopping list (you just add the things you need). I find this especially helpful because I can save multiple recipes I want to remember to make for the week without buying the groceries for all of them in one shopping trip, and have it right on my iPod Touch in the grocery store. This app works great, looks amazing, and is incredibly practical and useful. Decide what you want to make on your iPhone or iPod Touch at work or on your train commute, during lunch hour or whatever, make the shopping list, and stop at the store with it on your way home. Then get home and make a great, easy, quick weeknight meal! WELL WORTH the price point. You REALLY get what you pay for here, and more. A much better value than the less expensive cooking apps that are available. (translate)

Jamie Oliver's app is very professional and a joy to work with. I have made 4-5 recipes from it--having the app running while I prep and cook. I mostly rely on the written steps, but I love having the photos to switch to when I'm not clear (case in point--the chopped salad in the chicken kabob recipe. The photos totally helped.). The shopping list function works very well, and I use it at the supermarket. So far, Jamie Oliver has set the standard for cooking apps. I also use epicurious and Bittman's Cook Everything app. THose are good, but this is better. A note on the level of the recipes: they are NOT that challenging. Those who think they are must not cook that much. I will agree that calling them "20 min" recipes is stretching it. It's more like 20 min cook time + prep time. In any case, the recipes are mostly delicious (skip the burger recipe though), but they take a little more time than advertised. Still a great app! (translate)

The design is cool, clean and functional, and the recipes are fantastic. They may have a lot of steps but they are simple and well-suited to following along with as you are cooking. The best feature of this app is that the recipes can be scaled for 2 or 4 people with the touch of a button. I love that. (translate)
