I use the app for all F1GP races, details are good and accurate. I wish though they would add the split difference in the live timing. Great to know what position the drivers are in, but doesn't show what the time difference is between the drivers. You just don't know how far back 2nd is from 1st and so on.... So nearly there .... As others have said it really needs the gap info to be useful. Split times are useful but there's no frame of reference to know if they're getting close or not. There seems to be a date bug too, it's showing the Montreal race as being Sunday at 2:00 when the website has it as Monday at 2:00 (Australian Eastern Standard Time) (translate)

The problem is that they clearly do not have the capacity to handle the number of users when a session is live. So we have a live timing app that doesn't work when a session is live! Happy to have the F1 Season in my hand whenever I want it. v1.5 seems to have fixed a problem I had with an earlier version - during Melbourne, every time I started the app, it defaulted to Bahrain and I had to scroll down to Melbourne. That's not something I was looking forward to later in the season. Now, having just installed 1.5, the app has opened straight away ay Malaysia, the next GP. Having the "my local time" and "race local time" is a great help. I'd like to see the same use of these types of buttons at the bottom of the screen to switch between "drivers" and "constructors" on the "Standings" panel, rather than having to scroll down to see constructors, and back up to see drivers. I'd also like to see some team and technical data - cars and liveries, drivers with photos and helmet livery, and perhaps technical data about the cars and the teams (car model numbers, designer / engineer, engine, links to the team websites), links to rules and regulations, etc. Perhaps some news as well. I would hope that the app evolves in time to be able to export data, especially at the end of the season. (translate)

I agree with some other reviewers that a 'landscape' view would be great to get sector times rather than just the coloured circles but as stated it is a 'freebie' so all is good. When looking at the troubleshooting section in the app it states:- Q: I am using the application on a wireless network and I can't see any live timing data? A: The mobile application tries to connect to the Formula1.com streaming server on network port 2428 for live updates. If you are using a wireless network, it may block connections to this port. If this is the case, you should contact your system administrator and ask them to open connections to TCP port 2428. So that fixed up my issue during the final practice 3 at the Australian 2010 GP so if you are having timing issues as the use of Formula1.com's data streams are getting hit try opening up port 2428 on your wireless network. Aside from connection issues, this App is useless until formula 1 management realise that everything they do is dragging the sport down. Who needs live timing when you can just print the qualifying results and just put a line through the cars that crash or break down? (translate)

i ran the app for the first 2010 GP at Bahrain and it seems to work fine. I've had no crashes running it a dozen or more times. the pluses are easy - it's FREE, it's easy to use, all the info it does show is shown clearly and in general the GUI is really easy to look at and uses the iPhone screen space well. there's graphs that show the weather/track temp data over time which are not THAT important over say sector time info but hey. the minuses are easy too... since the paid F1 app that's now into its 2nd generation demonstrates what is possible quite nicely. so I find this free app a bit lightweight but given that it's free and the paid app is expensive as mobile apps go then this one is clearly good value - however, it doesn't give sector times [at least i couldn't find them] just a colour coded dot - colours per the F1.com site live timing showing fastest sector -PB'setc. It also leaves out the gap to leader time. and commentary is really small and once it's gone it's gone. and there's no track maps anywhere. in contrast, the paid app gives you ALL the timing data that the official site does [to be fair, it's not THAT much more unless you're truly serious about the finer points], plus you can see an animation of relative car positions on a scale graphic of each track [great for remembering the basic track layout], and commentary data that comes up very nicely overlayed on the screen; you CAN access the commentary elsewhere if you want to review it during AND after the race. Plus there's a "News" page which has a selection of highlights from the features from the F1.com site. theres more but this isnt about that app... suffice to say - this application is too basic for me [a complete F1 addict/geek/freak] and I consider the paid app good value for it's substantial price. Not all the bells and whistles of the $30 apps, but a great addition when watching the live race on TV. I just finished watching Australia (live), and the sync was very good to excellent (depending upon camera view). At times, the pit information was available to me before the commentators mentioned it and I know that at least one Pit Out was in perfect sync with the broadcast signal because I saw it. The app doesn't show sector, lap and interval times all at the same time and it doesn't "record" the timing for reuse when watching the race again at a later date (if you need those features, consider the season pass for $30). But for less than $10, I think this is a pretty useful app. Oops! Sorry about that - this app is Free, so I should have given it 5 stars (translate)

Looks like a pretty good app so far (without having used it while a race is on yet). But it has a couple of shortcommings. The home screen should show the next race weekend and not the first (still shows Bahrain by default). And then it needs an button to show times in my local time (like on the site) But else it looks pretty nice. Hope we'll see further improvements down the line. Am Anfang braucht man ein paar Minuten um sich rein zu fuchsen, dann bietet es maximalen Service rund um training und Rennen. Es ist unglublich wie man anfängt mit zu fiebern auch wenn man kein tv in der Nähe hat, zb bei den ersten Trainings. Ich kann jedem F1 interessierten nur raten es mal zu probieren. Ich verstehe nicht wie dieses app nur 2* haben kann, es gab noch nie einen Ausfall. Nie probleme, nix.... I can't believe it. This application shows the position of each racer and their lap times but it doesn't show the gap between each racer in seconds! What is the interest of knowing that someone is in the second position but not knowing if he is behind the leader 1 second or 30 seconds? C'est une application que j'attendais, car je ne voulais pas payer plus de 20€ pour avoir le Live Timing de la F1. Les seuls soucis qu'on peut connaitre, c'est: une interface en anglais, des temps de chargement assez longs parfois, le manque d'un mode paysage qui permettrait d'avoir toutes les infos en même temps et la possibilité de convertir les horaires pour passer de l'heure du circuit à l'heure de l'endroit où on est ! A part ça, c'est une appli bien pratique qui, je l'espère, va continuer à évoluer dans le bon sens tout au long de la saison ! J'espère aussi que cela va se reproduire la saison prochaine ! Et pour ceux qui se posent la question, l'appli en elle-même et son utilisation sont gratuits (hors coût de connexion 3G/Wi-Fi évidemment !) tout au long de la saison ! Une seule formalité est nécessaire pour avoir accès aux data: il faut d'inscrire, tout à fait gratuitement, sur formula1.com, rubrique LIVE TIMING puis entrer ses identifiants dans l'application pour la débloquer. Cette application, qui est l'application officielle Formula1.com est tout simplement extraordinaire. Ce week-end avait lieu le premier Granx Prix de la saison. J'ai testé l'application, est j'ai été agréblement surpris par la précision phénoménale du Live Timing. Sur toutes les autres applications que j'ai pu testé, je n'ai jamais découvert une aussi grande rapidité dans le rafraichissement des chronos, des temps par secteurs, etc...Du pur régal ! Molto bene, provata durante il gp d'australia, i tempi sul giro sono in tempo DAVVERO istantaneo e derivano da quelli ufficiali. Tantissimi dati utili come vento temperatura velocita max e, per quei 2 qui sotto che non lo sanno, ci sono anche i GAP tra le vetture, basta pigiare sul titolo dell'oggetto (esempio tempi sul giro) per mostrare altri dati! Anche su sector idem, o pallini colorati o tempi dei singoli intermedi. Commenti giro per giro. Utilizzo anche l'app F1 Racing che è più bella graficamente ma se cercate dati in tempo reale, non c'è storia! Mon application F1 préférée en essai, en qualif ou en courses. En effet, cette application ne donne aucun renseignement sur l'actualité ou sur les pilotes, par contre elle donne les divers classements des courses ainsi que du championnat, et surtout un Live Timing excellent avec Track condition, etc. Une vraie console de suivi lors des courses, à utiliser en paralèlle de la TV ou aux abords de la piste! Application que je recommande vivement (aux puristes). :-) (translate)

This app is one of the best I've downloaded in terms of value and quality. The fact this is free just makes it even better. I use this even when watching qualifying or races on TV, as it gives lap times, sector times, track and weather conditions. I'm aware there's an F1 app that costs around £15, but can't think what other features it would have to offer to make it as good value as this one. (translate)

I emailed the Publisher asking some pretty simple questions that appear unclear. they failed to respond. the questions were is this an anual fee app as it would appear so, but isn't stated also i asked if this is the case then why isn't the app on a price sliding scale. clearly if you were to purchase the app in nov then you would be able to use the app about twice. as i said it isn't cheap and the publisher remains quiet... I've used the online timing on formula1 for a long time now, this app is good but I really miss the column which shows the gaps between the cars, without this it doesn't give a full picture of whats going on. This app works flawlessly on my iPhone 3GS, under iOS 4 and previously 3. It delivers fascinating timing data to the extent that, during qualifying, it's easy to forget to watch the cars and look at the sector times instead. You really can beat the commentators by seeing events unfold before they have a chance to say anything. During the race it's still interesting to see times but slightly less compelling. Given that it's free it just has to have 5 stars, the user interface and features are all well produced too. You do have to register after the first use but, personally, I found that trouble-free. This is a really good accompaniment during the race to help see where everyone is. I'm curious though - why does it need to be updated after every race? Seems very odd. Would be good to get live deltas of each driver behind the leader, so for example, for most of the British GP Hamilton was +5 seconds behind Webber etc. Also, I'd love to see the cars' GPS trackers to see at a glance where everyone is on the track. When I got my iPhone this was one of the first apps I got and I don't regret it at all! I would highly recommend it to other f1 fans - even without ios4 support! Great app that shows how each driver is performing. Not only each lap, but each sector! You hear on the TV commentary about a driver being "purple", you can now see it yourself sector by sector, at the same time as the F1 teams. Only thing that stops me giving 5 stars...it doesn't show the time difference between the cars. i.e. when the leader crosses the start/finish line, how many seconds later the next car is. (translate)

EDIT All is going reasonably well but I HOPE multi-tasking will be enabled soon for this app. .......…..................................................... A few key things need to be addressed asap. Finally landscape view is available, will have to wait until Malaysia to see if we can now see all 3 sector times on the same screen without tapping. Most important of all now is to make sure we have the ability to lock rotation of the screen. This is available on some web browser apps in the app store so you should be able to put it on this. Many GP's are on at strange times and I often use the iPhone when on my side in bed. Therefore rotation lock is a must for this app. As for the app icon, why not just use red or White instead if the sickly green! For the future I hope too see The ability to read official quotes from all teams and drivers after practice qualifying and races as well. Maybe we can even have video footage of official press conferences. (translate)

This app is great when it works, but unfortunately every minute when my lock screen kicks in the app loses connection to the server and has to be shut down and restarted and the connection speed is 2-3 minutes. Here's the thing: coverage on Speed is delayed by five minutes or so, and when it's shown on Fox it's hours after the race. And the info is limited vs the official site too, with intervals and a couple of other details absent. So taken all together, an otherwise useful app for US F1 fans is pretty much useless in the US, at least until Austin in 2012 or a user otherwise attends a race with AT&T service. (translate)

This app looks quite good, and provides seemingly useful data. But if you try to use this in conjunction with Speed/Fox coverage of the last few races (Canadian through British), you will find that you have to turn it off, or better - don't try to bring it up in the first place. Speed Channel has started tape delaying the qualification, thus when you start this app at you start watching the first laps of first qualification, the timing app shows what's happening with 5 minute left. In Third qualification, you will see the final qualification results just as the session starts. And then for the race it is even worse - By the time Fox airs the race, it is already complete. So if you bring up this app, you will see the race results front and center. (translate)

As far as race it is useless as it does not show race gaps or lap number for the race to read team strategy. I am writing this as not casual viewer. I am into racing myself and pretty much have insight what timing systems can do and how to read this information. If you want to see how the proper interface fully equipped in timing and scoring should look like check rMonitor application or at least follow what formula1.com web site live timing shows - and yes it shows gaps and lap number, but it still could be improved. No I will not tell what could be improved. Just check rMonitor to understand what's needed on iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad platform. Three stars only for sector times and usefulness for qualification sessions. (translate)

It's free, and it gives you enough extra info to what you see on tv. It might now be enough for those traveling and/or trying to enjoy the race through their iphones/touch though. Wish list: •An option to highlight your favorite drivers and/or teams permanently. •Split screen timing+commentary view would be great. •I understand why the icon is green and ugly. Since all the unofficial apps are using the official color logo you needed something different, yet official-looking. But a nicer looking solution is still possible :) •Integrated browser for that formula1.com link on top, could make up for lack of extra info in the app? :) Issues: •Visible fade square in the Legal section, it doesn't cover the complete width of the screen. Looks weird when scrolling. This is a nice ap, you'll always know the info is accurate and if you don't need the useless eye candy other apps offer then you'll love it. (translate)

My internet connection is a portable Verizon MiFi and it wont work, I cant even log in. I have to go to another WiFi area to see the live timing and thats not convienent. (translate)

Don't waste your time on this app. You must register with the website to use it, then there isn't much useful information. No track maps, no driver bios, etc. The other free F1 app is much better IMO. Like I said in the title, it's useful for live timing and that's all. (translate)

Picked this up in time for China. On 3G I knew the lap times before the tv guys said anything! Would like to see gaps, though. Used in conjunction with the F1 mobile site and the Speedtv broadcast, I'm hooked into F1 better than ever. Thank you! One thing I'd like to add. I downloaded "straight" ringtone to iTunes (on my computer), and it wouldn't let me put it on my iPhone because I hadn't purchased it. Apples fault, not yours. I'd pay $.99 for 18000rpm on my phone, could you make it available on iTunes ? (translate)

Although the prior version worked flawlessly on my 3G running 3.1.3, the upgrade to 1.5 refuses to log into the server, claiming unavailability of same. After the upgrade failed to log in, I did uninstall it and downloaded it again (as suggested by the formula1.com web site), but with the same result. Going directly to the formula1.com website works fine using Safari on the iPhone, and Live Timing is fully operational on my PC. Truly annoying when developers take something perfectly functional and turn it into mush. (translate)

Just upgraded to the latest version. I guess the latest version fixed a problem where originally the home button will always point to the first race instead to the current race. So that is good. But the application lacks additional information, like a news section, track information like a map, the name of each turn, mark the sections on the track that is used for timing, teams, drivers, and pictures. During the race it is a good but needs additional info to complemet the timing tool and be a solid application. (translate)

After registering at Formula1.com and creating a user name, I was excited to see how the app worked. No such luck, however. The log in screen on the app never attempts to connect, rendering the app unusable. (translate)

I enjoyed watching the race progress on the phone while watching the live TV broadcast. Was impressed with the real-time updates. Then the trial period expired and I tried to register the software on the phone multiple times with no success. "Login failed. Server is not responding. Please try again later." I will try again during the Malaysia race this weekend. Hopefully the server will be up and running at that time. (translate)

Just downloaded for the Melbourne GP- a bit of a hiccup getting started, as I had to open port 2428 on my wireless router so the timing and scoring server could communicate with the app. Once that was cleared up it was awesome- all the live sector times, purples greens yellows and all- gives you something to look at during commercial breaks :) Wishlist: agree with others about being able to highlight a driver. Also would like to have a position diagram for all the drivers on the circuit, but that is probably not part of normal timing and scoring though. Definitely recommended for F1 junkies like me, but the casual follower probably won't get much from this app. (translate)

I definitely prefer the F1 2010 Live Timing app. Yes, I know it costs money and this one is free, but I think it is worth every penny. One of the key places this app comes up short is that you have to watch the live timing data LIVE. Being in the USA I prefer to watch sessions on DVR and I want an app that you can synch to your TV. The other app I referred to allows you to do that. The other app also gives you a live track map in 3D where you can see every driver circulating on the track via GPS data. It is incredible. So, this app is OK, but I think the F1 2010 Live Timing app offers much more functionality -- and not just for live timing, but for historical data and track maps, team and driver profiles too. So far this app looks very good, but there doesn't seem to be a way to get detailed track information (map, etc.) unless a race is currently underway (or some other live timing event). Looks very comprehensive and will be my F1 app of choice. (translate)
