Great app, but charging more per issue than the print version is just insulting. I'm unable to recommend this app until the price point issue has been resolved. Also you can't download your latest purchased issue to any of the other iPads in your home. My partner and I have gone back to buying and sharing the print version as it costs us $6.04 less than if we were to each buy an issue for our iPads. (translate)

The same problem as most magazine applications, despite many of them having full contents. Locked content, inconsistent navigation, overpriced relative to subscription, poor handling of type sizes. Try the web site via RSS feeds, and buy the paper version if an issue looks interesting. (translate)

This is another grate app showing off how digital mags can work on a tablet. The only issue I have is the swiping motion is not smooth and the is a small delay before the other page is pulled forward. Now most people are complaining about the cost of each issue. I say get over it. If you willing to pay $12 per app what's the issue with spending $5.99 per issue. People are forgetting that there are production cost digitalizing the issue for the app. $5.99 is not a huge step. (translate)

Many reviews are focusing solely on the price. I'll come back to the price, but in my view, it's the wrong place to start a review for this app. I'd encourage anyone who is interested in Time on the iPad to look first at the app and the content. It is very, very good. Obviously, this is very high quality journalism; less obviously, Time has successfully put it in a very high quality form. Time has paid attention to detail in the development of highly appropriate mixed media which retains the feel of a strong news magazine, while adding appropriate choices from many additionally available media types. Layout, navigation, photos, video, links... this is a very, very well thought out package. In my view, this is a state of the art application that shows the way for news and current affairs content delivery. And, of course, Time magazine can be relied on for continuing quality content. Therefore, I think the app is worthy of five stars out of five, as an app. If you consume quality news and you own an iPad, I would think you'll be more than satisfied by the overall experience here. But, back to pricing... $6 an issue is hard to justify. As a long-term subscriber to Time magazine, and a long time customer of Apple hardware, I find it very annoying that there has been no attempt made to sweeten the deal for Time's best customers. Where was the introductory offer? I have trouble imagining that this pricing will be sustainable. Therefore, I think it's fair for us all to feel a little bit gouged and milked. 5/5 for the application and content. 2/5 for the pricing - there is real room for improvement there, particularly for current print subscribers, wouldn't you think? Finally, a feature request: it would be nice to be able to save individual articles to a personal library, while disposing of old issues. (translate)

Reading Time Magazine on the iPad is so much better than the paper edition. It has extra video content and also slide view for the pictures. The app is very much like the print edition which appeals to me, with just a few extras to make it a worthwhile iPad app. I would love to see a subscription option and maybe a lower price. Still loving this and one of my most read magazines on the iPad. (translate)

I know Apple take 30% so I guess the question is ' does getting a print mag into peoples hands cost 30% of the cover price Nevertheless, the price should be lower since I am effectively providing the media on which the magazine is 'printed' (Unless you would like to subsidise my iPad) In addition, having tried a couple of magazines on my iPad now, I find the whole thing less than a real magazine. This is because I have not downloaded an issue yet. Why? After all, Time magazine always interests me when I thumb through a print copy. Perhaps that's it. One really important aspect of a physical magazine for me used to be flipping through before I committed to purchase. This App does not offer that. You might think it can't be done, but have a look at the Mens Health App to see how a magazine pre-purchase preview should be handled. (translate)

The magazine is great, and the app works pretty well, but it should be cheaper than the physical magazine. At $5.99 an issue, this is too expensive. Time Magazine should take a look at some of the other Magazine Apps out there like Zinio. There you can get a years subscription (12 issues) of Macworld for $20. Change the pricing of the magazine please! (translate)

I love this format of Time magazine except for the fact the video content requires a net connection. Many places I want to read magazines don't have a connection (like the subway) that's why I downloaded a mag instead of playing games or social networks. Big fail in my opinion. My paper magazine I can take with me anywhere, for 5 bucks this should be the same. (translate)

The app is so so and the price model they've chosen which is none subscription really bites! Considering that this is electronic distribution, the price of selling this magazine is considerably less expensive than the printed version! Why they can't offer it to us at a reasonable price is beyond me. I would gladly pay for a subscription if it was available and it was priced in line with the normal subscription pricing that they offer for the printed version. I love the magazine but I'll refrain from purchasing any more magazines until Time rethink their marketing strategy on electronic media. (translate)

I an impressed with the app. Easy to use. I forgot it was not a magazine. Easy to purchase. My only criticism is the price. At the moment it is cheaper to have a paper subscription. When someone prices these services fairly which takes into I pay for delivery and printing through my internet connection and iPad. Time pays for journalism and graphic design. Most traditional printing and distribution costs are eliminated. So why am I going to be excited to pay newsstand prices? I am not! If the price reflected the above and it was reduced to a more palatable level 5 stars are in order. (translate)

Was erwarten denn die Leute?

Is this a joke? €4 per DIGITAL issue??? Is this a fair price for a magazine that doesn't have to be burdened by printing, binding, shipping and distributing costs? Funniest thing: you can get subscriptions for the actual printed mag at €40 for 81 issues!!! Don't take my word for it: check their own website! We need as customers to make iPad publishers understand that at these prices their apps won't sell squat: I urge you not to buy a single in-app issue until they knock back the price to more reasonable levels and introduce similar subscription plans at more logical prices. The magazine design forces you to read articles from top to bottom, so when needing to turn the page you have to scroll down the page. If you do the movement to turn the page, you move onto the next story! Disappointing! The price per issue is absurd - many times more per issue than you'd pay for the physical magazine (especially if you subscribe). With this app you don't even get a sample issue to - theoretically - wow you with the quality of the app. Nope, they expect you to pay more than retail, despite the fact there are no retailers, distributors, etc taking a cut - and there's no cost associated with printing or return of unsold/spolied copies. Pull your head in Time Inc. A subscription - reasonably priced - would be pure money for jam - instead you persist with this week-by-week overpriced model. TIME on the iPad is having a global news source with background Information and great pictures in your palm. They work on really making a difference to the printed version. Though some might find this annoying (page navigation), it gives the suspicious reader new things to discover. Even watching the ads is fun ;-) Selecting whatever issue I want is great in comparison to the times (when I was a student) when I had subscribed to it, leaving a lot of the copies untouched and unread, because I didn't have time to read them all. Not all the newsstands in Austria have TIME magazine, so it's a great way to select the issue you want, read it anywhere, enjoy the rich content and don't waste paper anymore :-) Looking forward to having TIME adding new functionality, especially social media sharing like in SI, so I can share this great experience and the top cover stories I find interesting with my friends. PS: It would be great to see the download procedure of the issue to show not only a progressive bar, but also a data size indicator in megabytes. PPS: And the streaming videos sometimes need some seconds to start off - a nice new feature would be to have an interface indicator for this "Starting to stream video or audio" as well. Latency can be hell - especially abroad ;-) (translate)

I think this a great example of what An iPad with the right media can do. Combining the visual delights of multimedia with the informed text we come to expect from Time Magazine. If I have but one gripe is that I don't feel the pricing model is quite correct. I feel I am feeling a bit penalised for trying to save the planet. I.e. Not use paper. Perhaps a rethink here. However still a great buy. (translate)

Judging by older reviews, it looks like this app has improved a bit, but it's really not bad. The pricing model may be debatable for subscribers, but for casual readers such as myself, £2.99 per issue isn't bad considering the quality of the journalism and photographs you get. As per some other comments, you do seem to get two different 'experiences' of the magazine depending on which way you hold your iPad, and it's not always clear which orientation you should use for a particular story (landscape seems to be the best overall), but it's still pretty good. Certainly worth a look. (translate)

I can understand why so many people have rated this app low, but it's not designed to deliver free stuff. I bought the World Cup issue and enjoyed the interactivity features. I just hope to get more of those features in next issues, for example, in the World Cup history piece, you could attach some data to each poster to learn what happened. Or make the numbers in the news brief clickable. And you have to roll out annual rates, much lower than a single one, to encourage loyalty. (translate)

This is a total rip off. You can get a years subscription to the paper version for £35 and they expect us to pay £2.99 per issue for the iPad version! That's over 400% more. There's also no way for existing subscribers to view the iPad version, which makes sense given the price difference. I am so glad I can now download Time's free app and not have to give them five bucks to call them idiots. Idiots. This $4.99/digital copy thing is beyond ridiculous. But, do you believe their original strategy was to release completely separate apps each week and make people download each app for 4.99? Can you imagine the leagues of semi-literate middle class bumpkins with page after page of 5-dollar Time magazine apps on their iPads? Fools and their money are soon parted. I believe this to be Time's online strategy. They could charge a digital subscription price, a cheaper per-issue price, or five freaking' bucks. They went the five-dollar route and subsequently alienated a potentially huge new market. I cancelled my print subscription. Idiots... I thought one of the main ideas behind the iPad was going to be to "revolutionize" the way we consume print media. I really think the iPad could very well save the slumping magazine and newspaper market. But with no subscription option for these magazine apps, and the hefty price of $4 or $5 an issue for something that should cost less because it eliminates the physical cost of production, I find I am holding off purchasing these individually until something is done. This is way too expensive if you were to buy them on an ongoing basis...especially considering you can have a year of print subscription for about $20. So I've been patiently waiting for one of these magazines to finally come up with a way to solve the subscription issue...and I'm sad to see that the only one that has made an attempt...People...has now forced the customer wanting a subscription to the digital issues - to have to order a print subscription in order to download the digital issues free. I don't want the print issues at all!! I just want the digital one!! I don't want to just throw them in the recycle bin when they come to my door after I've already read the digital version. What a waste! I want to save trees!! Boo!!! I don't know who's to blame but I don't know why they can't find some way to come up with an affordable subscription choice without having to waste paper. That would really revolutionize the industry. C'mon guys...you're wasting a HUGE opportunity. (translate)

Time Inc., which publishes People, is now giving that magazine's subscribers the digital edition for free with the iPad ap. Can Time Magazines's digital edition be far behind? Obviously $4.99 is absurd and you're foolish to pay when you can have the print edition for pennies, but it must be the cost of early adoption I guess. Check out the Sporting News' daily digital edition for $2.00/month through the Zinio iPad ap. That is how things should be. The "previews" are nothing more than what you can find on the website, so all that's happening here is Time shifting the paywall, presumably so they don't have to revenue share with Apple. Honestly, I thought I'd get at least one whole issue, with prompts for subscribing. Nope and nope. (translate)

I agree with the majority of posters: the publishers have got to enter this century and realize that electronic delivery is the only way they will get back the volume of readers they once had. But this will not happen at $5 an issue. If you're looking to recreate subscription-type loyally from us, offer it. I would gladly pay for a years worth of content in advance if the subscription price was available. Why not go beyond that model? Why not sell 30-issue credit blocks and let us grab the ones we want? You could even sell back issues that way. I'm just shaking my head at the way the newsweekly industry seems intent on self destruction Please get with the program. (translate)

I hope someone at Time headquarters reads the reviews. Whoever suggested $5 for the iPad version of the magazine should be fired. As a 30 year subscriber, I looked forward to the convenience of reading the magazine (and other material) on my iPad while traveling. I'll just leave the magazine at home and read something else. Some news apps are great! Most magazine apps, including Time, are not worth the price, which is "free" but still no value. The point is to sell you a magazine at an inflated price. If I can get a subscription for less than $1/issue, why would I want to pay 3 to 5 times that for a downloaded version? If they can distribute it w/o paper, printing or postage costs, why would they charge so much? (translate)

Way too expensive an issue for an electronic download. Don't subsidize the paper copy on the backs of the digital version. I downloaded the app, saw the cost was $4.99 an issue, and promptly deleted the app. (translate)

I have been a subscriber to Time magazine for years. I was excited to see this app. As someone who is interested in saving trees, I thought this was a great idea to go digital. I have cancelled most of my paper subscriptions. Then I saw the price tag for Time iPad magazine. It is ridiculous. Someone in these reviews is trying to blame apple for it. Apple has nothing to do with it. I have an iPad subscription to the Nation and it costs less than $18 a year. Am sure the liberals in the Nation are more sensible than the Elites in Time. Time is not being sensitive to it's readers. At the end of my current paper subscription, I am canceling. They are just another reason the news print industry is dying. After over 4000 people have reviewed this app saying the price is not worth the subscription, you will think they will listen. Those are 4000 subscriptions they have just lost. If they sold the electronic subscription at $26 a year that they sell the print subscription, they would have just made $104,000. It will cost them almost nothing to make that money. No shipping cost, no printing cost. Am not sure someone is even bothering to read these reviews. Is someone sleeping in the wheels? (translate)

There are lots of other e-magazines available that are reasonably priced. I am sorry that I can not read Time on my ipad, but the cost is crazy. I am happy to pay for content. But this is insulting. (translate)

. . . there is a problem. iBook, GQ, Zino, and other digital magazines allow you to have your account and your own library, which stores your purchased issues, on their servers, so that you can access and retrieve, via password, your purchased issues at your convenience. And not having to store every issue offline. Time Inc. doesn't get this right, unfortunately. Without your account and your own library on its server, you could lose everything you paid for. I bought 8 issues, and lost all of them when I had to restore my iPad. I love the TIME magazine, but I am not buying anymore digital issues until they fix this. Also, the price is too high. A dollar or two less would have made a difference. (translate)

These are the characteristics that have secured Time's place in American homes for five decades of just my life, a former print reporter. There is a disruptive change occurring regarding the distribution of important information to a free society and its needs to function in our society and to support policy makers need to function in the people's best interests. Electronic distribution enables distribution to developing nations whose civil rights need help and example. To my way of thinking, every print publisher is required to acknowledge the ramifications of the disruptive transformation that's underway - think hot type to cold type and the initial unforgiving realities of the video display terminals. All publishers had to play for competitive purposes and there were many bents that accrued along the value change, particularly to readers. Time is among the Fourth Estate's scouts to work through the new realities facing all publishers. eFortmat early adopters who view legacy print publications as less desirable than legacy print news content are Time' customer base, Time's quantifiable asset base. Why would you assume that you could charge them almost double for Time's product? I would venture that most of us don't subscribe to Time for the ads. Advertisers have performed their research about the time readers spent on e-ads, which is what delayed print publishers decision to embrace, even research e-publishing as a customer desired alternative driven by changes in lifestyle. Time already has captured digital content required to set up the paper editions, so those are sunk costs. Time is rearranging the digital content file and is now charging readers time again and a lot of the creation of e-format is Green. Has Time queried it's readers to ascertain what our preferences and budget limitations are for pricing at this phase of the disruptive change? A frequent guest on the Charlie Rose News Hour, Play like Time has been invited to present its thinking regarding pricing strategies for e-content distribution. Should be entertaining. Regards for Time's excellent content. e-content distribution needs work. (translate)

This is a beautiful e-mag app. Price is a savings over newsstand but it appears that Apple not Time is responsible for our inaccessibility to subscription prices. Apple your user experiences are still at the top but are you getting too greedy to put us first? Would have given 4 stars if when Apple reset my iPad I had gotten my previous issues back in my library. (translate)

Order of events: Downloaded. Open. Closed in 10 seconds. Writing this review. Delete app. I am perplexed by TIMES' strategy on this. Right under my iPad, at this very moment, is the 8/2/2010 issue - I am a subscriber and paid probably less than $0.50 for the issue. They don't seriously expect me to pay $4.99 for the iPad version do they?! And don't confuse this, it's not $4.99 for the App. I might actually go along with that. The App is FREE, EACH ISSUE OF THE MAGAZINE IS $4.99!!!!!!! It's worse than overpaying at a newstand. What a joke!! (translate)

Marketing needs to be drug tested and then fired. Sales department needs to get out of the bar and talk to people who they think they can convince this is a good deal. $5/issue. I actually thought of getting a yearly subscription.... Fail. Marketing research ... Fail Sales perception of reality ... Fail This was installed on my iPad for less than 2 minutes. (translate)

FIRST off in an electronic era digital magazines should be able to have social media tools -- TIME Magazine for iPad is a great app. All it needs is to allow reader comments to be posted and viewed electronically for each story of each digital issue made available within this app. Also sharing via Facebook and Twitter would be helpful. The new Flip Board app for iPad does a fantastic job of creating a personalized electronic newspaper of one's social media content via Facebook and Twitter. Second I'll say this: Obviously based on comments by other reviewers there are some things still left to be desired from the app. Perhaps TIME should adjust the pricing for digital copies of TIME Magazine issues that can be purchased and downloaded to iPad within this app as some are saying to make digital issues more affordable. Obviously, production costs in digital issues are removed and TIME can afford to charge less for digital than it does in print and still make money. I have TIME Mobile for iPhone on my 2nd generation iPod Touch and its cool. This app for iPad seems even better in comparison. LASTLY, TIME Inc., use reviewer feedback to make improvements to pricing structure for digital (offer digital subscriptions in app as an option so users of this app don't have to pay per issue they download) and continue to make improvements to the quality of this great app as needed. Well it's pretty obvious - u guys should do something with ur offering ... I have 5 subscriptions to good mags on zinio - why? Because they don't nickel and dime me. We're saving u money on printing and delivery costs - that should be reflected in price. All the other digi converts get that ... Keeping your price-point jacked reeks of snobbery - "they'll pay what we say because we say it." in a consumer driven marketplace where we have plenty of good choices, that thinking will kill you. I don't think people realize the reason why Time can't offer free access to current subscribers is Apple. Apple insists on single-copy sales through iTunes so they can take their 30% cut of revenue. Subscriptions sold outside iTunes don't fall under Apple's jurisdiction, so they don't allow them to include apps. (translate)

I really, REALLY want to give Time my money. I LOVE their free content on the iPhone/iPad app. I got the subscription a few years ago, but had difficulty getting around to reading them and canceled. Now I think I would actually go through it if I could get it on my iPad, and think they deserve to receive payment for the amount I enjoy their product. However, it is really ridiculous to ask us to pay cover price. I refuse. I would consider paying a little more than the regular subscription price -- even though they don't have to pay printing or mailing on it, and electronic costs would be negligible once the app was created -- but not this much more. Time, please fix this...because, like I said, I really, REALLY want to give you a fair amount of my money. (translate)

I have no quarrel with the App, it's the price baby! I have been subscribing to TIME since I was 12 and now I am 60. I would love to switch my subscription from print to iPAD but I pay less than $26.50 per year by buying years at a time. I can't understand their pricing model. No print cost and no postage for iPAD subscriptions, yet they would expect me to pay more for one month+ than I pay for an entire year's worth of issues. This makes ZERO sense. I guess that TIME like the rest of the print media would prefer bankruptcy to profitability. Go figure. (translate)

With these prices it's clear that time is stuck in the past. People will no longer pay for this info when similar info is available online and on tv news. Get a clue Times. Also the least you could do with this app is provide a demo issue. Everyone needs to consider the revolution that digital media is creating. I will not pay 4.99 an issue its ridiculous. However if the digital issues were resonably priced the print medium industry would implode, no one would buy dead tree publications anymore, basically over night and millions would be out of work. I want cheap content too but we have to give the geniuses at Time Warner a chance to work out a sustainable business model. Give them a break after all they had the foresight to buy AOL. (translate)

It's a nicely written app, but the publishers must be on crack if they think we will pay $5 per issue for something we can subscribe to and get delivered to our house in hardcopy for less than 50 cents. You have, over decades, established the price for your content. Here, you are given the opportunity to publish with extremely minimal distribution costs, and you try to charge over 10 times the standard price? Either you are insanely greedy or you think we are insanely stupid. Pick one. You could revolutionize publishing if you did this right. Instead you act like this. Pathetic! (translate)
